This comes in the wake of the announcement by the US Preventive Services Task Force that certified Screening for Depression in Adults as a B recommendation, effectively reclassifying it so that it must now be covered under the Affordable Care Act.

Depression Screening, especially with regards to pregnant and post-partum women, had not been previously seen as a serious issue, a perspective the new report changes. The report now places emphasis on depression screening at all practices, something that may put pressure on providers considering the challenges faced when recording the screening data through traditional tools such as paper, tablets or computers. The WRS “Health Screening” Digital Pen allows patients to complete the CES-D assessment during intake and results are automatically added to their patient record. The easy-to-use Pen does this through its full EHR integration, and “Dock and Forget” technology, which automatically adds patient data to their health record the moment the pen is replaced in its dock. This means there’s no human error that can occur in the collection or recording of the data. The Pen also significantly shortens the amount of time taken to do the screening, taking only on average between two and five minutes to administer. The Pen can be used to administer depression screening using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) or any other scale the doctor opts to use. In addition, using CPT Code (96103) allows for immediate billing to Medicare and most major insurance companies.
