Goshen, New York  — Waiting Room Solutions® (WRS), a leading web-based EHR and PM provider, has launched a blog that focuses on the Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) program, which was established in 2006 as a result of the Tax Relief and Health Care Act (TRHCA). This multi-sections WRS blog features an overview of PQRI, including details regarding the changes made to the program over the past few years. The blog also lists many of the different measures used to satisfy the program requirements, and gives a step by step process for using an EHR system to facilitate PQRI qualification (see picture)Steps for using EHR to facilitate PQRI. Lastly, the blog contains pages with PQRI national provider caller information as well as the answers to frequently asked questions. On each of these informative pages there is also a section for visitors to submit questions and comments to Waiting Room Solutions or to their peers.

The PQRI system offers incentive payments to physicians who satisfactorily report data on quality measures for services provided to Medicare patients. These measures are evaluated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and they are subject to change for every reporting period. Participating physicians must report on at least three quality measures, and must report on at least 80% of cases for which that measure is reportable. They must then submit their quality measures to either CMS on their Medicare Part B claims, a qualified PQRI registry, or CMS via an electronic health record (EHR) system. Qualifying providers who submit through these channels will then receive a PQRI incentive payment equal to 2.0% of their total estimated Medicare Part B Physician Fee Schedule (PFS).

The goal of the PQRI system is to enhance the quality of documentation, and as a result, improve the quality of care among practices. This program is beneficial for physicians because it aids in the technological advancement and organization of their practices, while also providing monetary incentives. There is also a large benefit for patients, who receive superior treatment through the utilization of this improved recordkeeping system.

“Since the PQRI program results in such widespread benefits for both providers and patients, Waiting Room Solutions hopes that their PQRI information and discussion blog will encourage more physicians to participate in the program,” said Dr. Lawrence Gordon, CEO and founder of Waiting Room Solutions. “With the aid of an EHR system and the information offered on this blog, physicians can easily take advantage of the PQRI incentives while also investing in the growth of their practice,” he added.
